  • Front Limb Lines (FLL) - Protraction & Retraction

The Front Limb Lines coordinate the muscles that move the front legs. Two lines have been described.

  • Front Limb Protraction Line (FLPL) - BLUE
    • Swing phase - protraction - extension - landing - stance phase …
    • Cranial path has origin in deep cervical fascia running along Omotransversarius & Brachiocephalic mm. to the cranial margin of the scapula to connect with the Supraspinatus m.
    • Caudal path runs from thoracic Trapezius & Rhomboid mm. to fuse with the cranial path at the Supraspinatus m.
    • From there it follows the Biceps brachii m. to the common digital extensor m. and tendon with final insertion on the dorsal aspect of the
      distal
      phalanx.
  • Front Limb Retraction Line (FLRL) - GREEN
    • The cranial path has it's origin in the dorsal region of the deep cervical fascia running along the cervical Rhomboid & cervical Trapezius mm. to the cranial margin of the scapula and connecting into the Infraspinatus m.
    • The caudal path arises in the thoracolumbar fascia and proceeds into the Latissimus dorsi m. and then to the Triceps brachii m. where it fuses with the cranial path within the Infraspinatus m.
    • The lines continue distally over the elbow and follow the Digital Flexor muscles and tendons to the insertions of the Deep and Superficial flexor tendons.
